Outfit Diary - Farewell 2013

Farewell 2013 - A Year of Changes.

2013 was a year of changes. For myself and for my family.
After 23 years, we moved to a bigger house which is good!
And near my work too which makes my life a whole lot easier.
I miss my neighbors (cousins) and the nearby malls that I used to hang out.
Getting to events has become a bit harder because of my new location (sighs).
I've noticed that I stay home more often. A good thing coz I save more money. :)

My 2013 Career Life has been doing great!
As a teacher - this year were full of changes as well. New class and teacher partner.
More responsibilities but enjoying the challenge.
As a blogger - more blogging collab and opps! Many thanks to my wonderful bff shopgirl Jen who helps me keep in touch with the blogging world despite my busy life as a teacher.
Blogging highlight for me was getting more involved in the Bloggers United Power Team this year and gaining new blogger friends all over! :)

As a freelance writer / creative writing / social media manager at Odesk
Have I mentioned how much I love writing? Reading and writing has always been a passion of mine and this year I was able to put it into good use as I was able to get a regular Odesk part time job. It isn't much but its decent. I enjoy the work and what I learn from it. Hopefully I will earn more in my future contracts. hehe.

If there were happy moments for 2013 there were also sad ones. Last summer, my grandma on my father's side went on to be with the Lord. This was more poignant to me because I took part in taking care of her during her last days and I was with her when she took her last breath. It just simply boggles my mind that Lola went just like that. One moment we were talking and sharing with each other in her room, the next she was just gone. I had to learn to deal with this kind of bewildering grief. I also learned treasure the moments and memories I had with Lola coz I was able to let her know how much I love and appreciate her during the time I spent with her.
Yes 2013 reminded me to value time spent with loved ones.

Proactiv Solution Daily Oil Control To The Rescue

Hey Coffeeholics! We are on the verge of saying goodbye to 2013. It has been an eventful year but I'm definitely looking forward to awesome things ahead on 2014. As the countdown is about to begin, I bet some of us are also are reflecting and thinking about what things should we say goodbye to at the same time as we bid adieu to 2013. One thing I would love to say goodbye to (hopefully) as the year ends is my oily face with the help and rescue of Proactiv Solution Daily Oil Control.

2013 - Kai vs. Zits.
So far, Kai is winning! yay! Less Zits.
Still need to work on controlling my "oily" face though.
Yes, this 2013 has been kind to me because I'm happy to report that because of Proactiv and the things I've been learning through Proactiv has helped me win more battles in what I've been calling the Zit Wars. Like I've mentioned in my previous post before, Knowledge is Power. And being aware on what causes acne and what I can do to control it has indeed helped a lot. The Doctors' Secret to a Lifetime of Clear Skin (click to read my review) really helped me to understand more about this as mentioned in the previous Proactiv blog post last month. As you can see there are still some things I need to overcome. One of which is to take control of my oily face. Even with all the moisturizer, foundation, face powder, and other makeup that I use - after a few hours I have to just accept the fact that I'd still be oily. So I was pretty happy when Proactiv let me try out Proactiv Solution Daily Oil Control. Especially when I learned all about its properties.

The Proactiv Solution Daily Oil Control - SRP: Php 899, 50ml Tube
About the product.
The Proactiv Solution Daily Oil Control is a breakthrough facial lotion that eliminates shine and is designed to absorb excess oil to help give a more mattified appearance while helping the skin fight acne. This also helps the skin to remain soft, smooth and hydrated without looking or feeling greasy.

When I tried on the product, it did give me a mattified appearance. It was absorbed immediately on my skin and I'm so glad to report that it left my skin soft, smooth, and hydrated. There was no greasy feeling whatsoever. It indeed performed the task of mattifying. I used the product before I put on any makeup.

Who should use it?
The Proactiv Daily Oil Control is ideal for men and women with oily skin because it controls and balances the oil levels and gives a matte finish after using it.

At the end of the day, I did notice a difference. It was considerably less oily than before. My makeup lasted longer. I'm not saying it totally removed the oil from my skin. But it was less and it was controlled. And for that improvement I am grateful. I bet those who have oily skin and wear makeup have also difficulty in making sure that your makeup stays intact? Well the good news is with the Proactiv Daily Oil Control, your makeup won't be streaking because of your oily skin! I usually have to deal with that especially with my eye makeup. But this has helped a lot! There are other benefits of using Proactiv Daily Oil Control and you can read it below.

What are the benefits of using Proactiv Daily Oil Control?
1. It helps control oil and other impurities that may cause pores to clog.
2. It helps to add moisture to the skin without a greasy feel.
3. It helps control sebum production that can cause skin imperfections.
4. It helps prevent makeup from streaking throughout the day.

What are the Key Ingredients?
Decylene Glycol – a highly effective moisturizer and oil controller
Silicone blend – provides a moisture barrier to soften, soothe, and hydrate the skin
Nylon-12 – absorbs excess oil, and provides anti-shine properties

How does it complement the Proactiv 3 Step System?
Just a thin layer of Daily Oil Control reduces excess facial oil and balances your skin's natural oil level to get rid of shine. It also keeps makeup from streaking and helps keep pores from clogging while it hydrates skin, so it's great for your complexion. Directions: Use after Repairing Treatment. Apply a thin layer to entire face with fingertips.

MMFF 2013 My Little Bossings - A Bloggers Night

Here in the Philippines, besides Christmas, another unique thing that happens on December 25 and that is the beginning of the Metro Manila Film Festival. I'm pretty much sure there are a lot of wonderful movies to watch this year's film festival but if you want to watch a wholesome, funny, and family oriented movie - MY LITTLE BOSSINGS is your best bet!

Just a few weeks ago, I was invited to the MY LITTLE BOSSINGS Blogger's Night - a bloggers' conference at Anabel's at Tomas Morato. For the first time, I was able to see the Bossing Vic Sotto and the charming little bossing Ryzza Mae Dizon and hear them talk all about the movie My Little Bossings. Just to be able to see Boss Vic up close and personal had me a bit starstruck after all, I did grow up watching him everyday on Eat Bulaga ever since I was a kid! hehe. Miss Bibeth Orteza, the writer for My Little Bossings, was also there to share how this movie came about.

I really enjoyed this "press conference" with the bloggers because indeed Boss Vic made it easy for us. Without a lot of prodding, he shared his heart out on how and why the film came to be, how fun and also challenging it was filming it especially with the two child stars Ryzza and Bimby, and why this is the must watch MMFF movie this year. In fact he proudly said that this was one of his best movies so far. Wow that's surprising especially after all the hi-tech fantasy movies he has done so far (Enteng Kabisote). I guess maybe because the movie is all heart - nakakataba ng puso so to speak!

“My Little Bossings” is a movie whose time has come. Ever since the project was bared, the public has been counting months, waiting with bated breath how the precocious Ryzza Mae Dizon will jive with the decorous James “Bimby” Aquino Yap, Both charming and intelligent, but one street smart and the other “socially elite,” it’s an intriguing pairing indeed.

How did this movie came about?
According to Boss Vic, he decided he wanted a change from the challenging fantasy scene (he went on to assure that Enteng Kabisote wasn't retiring.. just taking a break) and decided to pursue this project that he wanted to have with the child stars Ryzza Mae and Bimby. He recalled a talk he had with Kris Aquino about Bimby collaborating for a movie. After a call, the rest is history! With the help of Miss Bibeth Orteza, the story materialized. Yes, the movie was made with the two child stars in mind so it wasn't that hard or challenging for the kids.

How were the child stars able to cope with each other and the shooting of the film?

As shooting progressed and as the two kids warmed up to each other and established rapport on and off screen, it became clear that “My Little Bossings” is more than mere curious case. It’s a casting dynamo bound to shakeup the MMFF and steal thunder from anything that crosses its path. “Nakakatuwa talaga yung dalawang bata. They complement each other so well. You can see that when you watch the movie. Nagtuturuan, nagtatawanan, sabay napapagod, sabay nagugutom. Masaya lang kami sa set. Para lang kaming laging naglalaro,” said “My Little Bossings” lead star and co-producer, Vic Sotto.

According to Boss Vic, working with the child stars was fun and easy. He definitely knew how to deal with them, and that's by playing with them! Acting and interacting with them on and off screen was easier because he established good rapport with them through joking, teasing, and playing with them. According to Ryzza, one of their favorite games to play (probably during breaks) was bato-bato-pick! Both Boss Vic and Ryzza shared that at first Bimby was a bit stiff because of course they just got to meet with him but after a while they all were good friends. Harutan or wrestling with Bimby was how Boss Vic bonded with him. Acting was natural because of the incredible script as well. With this kind of atmosphere during the filming, I can definitely see the movie becoming a hit!

That is another thing going for the film: the sure success of “My Little Bossings” doesn’t rest just on the shoulders of Ryzza Mae and Bimby, but those of giants. One of the MMFF Box-office King’s co-stars is also royalty, none other than Queen of All Media and MMFF Box-office Queen Kris Aquino. It is said that one of Kris’ reasons in accepting the film is that she wanted her son Bimby’s first experience in making movies to be with someone of Vic’s stature and humility.

For years, the MMFF doesn’t seem to be complete without a starrer from either Vic or Kris or both. This time they join hands; matching stellar power with stellar power, showbiz might with showbiz might, midas touch with midas touch. How can “My Little Bossings” not turn to gold?

As most things come in threes, the power of the dream project doesn’t end there. “My Little Bossings” is produced by OctoArts Films, M-Zet Films, APT Entertainment and Kris Aquino Productions all of which have brought out their guns to ensure that it is a heartwarming, quality movie through and through. More than the big names attached to the film, “My Little Bossings” is a family film packed with lessons wrapped in humor, wit and laughter---exactly what we need in times like these.

Sabi nga ni Boss Vic, we need something to lift our spirits or humor up. And this movie seems to do the trick. Laughter is said to be the best medicine. And this film is up to the challenge to bring delight and laughter to us all.

And it looks like My Little Bossings has indeed stolen the hearts of many of us because My Little Bossings is currently on the  NO. 1 spot according to the official twitter page of Metro Manila Film Festival! Yup, this really makes me want to go to the movies and watch it. :) So my dear coffeeholics, if this hasn't convinced you yet to watch My Little Bossings, well then watch this trailer to learn more about the storyline.

My Little Bossings -- Vic plays the role Torky Villanueva who works as a bookeeper for the millionaire cash management specialist Baba Atienza (Kris). Because of some conflict in her business, Baba entrusts her son Justin (Bimby) to Torky’s care for fear of her life. In the meantime, Torky’s niece Ice (Aiza) who lives in the same house with him, is involved in an advocacy for street children where street kid Ching (Ryzza ) becomes her special ward. Ice brings Ching home when the orphanage closed down. The fun begins when all these people start living in one roof while they each tackle his respective personal dilemma.

“My Little Bossings” also stars Aiza Seguerra, Jaclyn Jose, Jose Manalo, Paolo Ballesteros, Barbie Forteza, Neil Coleta, and Neil Sese from the direction of Marlon Rivera. Story and screenplay by Bibeth Orteza.

So coffeeholics if you haven't watched it yet.. well go watch My Little Bossings - a fun filled family oriented movie for this year's Metro Manila Film Festival. Let me know what you think of the movie!

Outfit Diary - Cardigan Weather

Hey Coffeeholics! Its been a while since I was able to have an outfit post. Been pretty busy with all this Christmas rush.. gosh I can't believe how quick time flies and now December is nearly over.
Anyway, this was taken during one of our freaky weather days when the rain was drizzling while the sun was shining at the same time.

Weird talaga yung weather. So while raining I wore my flash aviators thanks to my friend Naomi!

My Starbucks Peppermint Mocha as an accessory? Pwede!! :) *walang aangal!
December also means horay for Starbucks Seasonal Drinks! Christmas aint Christmas without some Peppermint Mocha. *chos* Excuses to drink coffee - don't mind me. haha!

Say hello to my new babies bought from SM PARISIAN. I super SUPER love it. Yes I know its not boots but it kinda feels like boots and I just loooove that chunky heel. I've worn these shoes with a maxi skirt and a short skirt and its perfectly versatile I am in love with it. yay!
Black Sleeveless Top - Bazaar
Yellow Cardigan - Thrifted
Denim Jeans - Colours
Shoes - SM Parisian
Accessories - SM Accessories
Aviators - bought from @naomijean0913 (IG)
Init - lamig - init.. gosh weather, make up your mind! hehe

One thing I love about this cool season we have right now is that I can wear all the
cardigans, sweaters, scarves, etc in my closet! I rarely wear yellow but this particular cardigan has easily became my favorite. Its happy color plus comfort fit suits me perfectly. PLUS, the beauty of this cardigan is that its not too warm if the weather suddenly swings to a higher temperature. Also, I don't know about you but whenever I do see cardigans, it just gives this comfy and snuggly vibe to your outfit. Which is great coz you can wear a cardigan whether you just want to be casual and wearing jeans or if you wanna dress up for a semi-formal look like below:

The first photo (left) was me wearing my Sunday dress with a black cardigan. Second photo (right) is me wearing a bolero cardigan for this vintage dress that I wore to a 50's themed debut (haha feeling Stepford Wife ako nyan!)

Attended a garden sunset wedding at Thunderbird Resorts. (Loved the view!)
And yes, glad I was wearing this loose cardigan to offset the breezy cool weather!

Wearing a short sleeve bolero cardigan with a semi-formal dress to a High School Reunion,
That's me and my sis. We both went to the same school. :)
Yes my dear coffeeholics, cardigans come in all shapes, sizes, and color.  As you can see, you can turn a simple outfit to a semi-casual look or even up to a semi-formal one for that matter with cardigans. You can "dress up" or "dress down" in any situation! If you are worried that you can't find the perfect cardigan for a particular occasion, well you can always check out Zalora where they have a variety of cardigans which can be styled differently.

So Coffeeholics, what's your favorite cardigan? Or do you prefer jackets? Or are you like some other gals out there who like to wear sleeveless tops in this cool weather? Are you done with your Christmas shopping? (huhuhu wala na ko choice.. nag sara na ang wallet ko. haha!) Hope you are enjoying this wonderful Christmas Season! Happy Holidays. :) Mwah mwah!

FOOD DIARY - PUBLIKO Eat + Drink

Its Christmas na! And one way we celebrate Christmas here in the Philippines is through FOOD! Yep, we are quite well known that we have a "feast" loving culture and Christmas is especially special because not only do we savor our food but we enjoy the festivity, fun, and laughter that accompanies our friends and loved ones! So most of you are probably wondering where you and your barkada, officemates, and long time friends can have a relaxing fun reunion in Eastwood? Then why don't you drop by PUBLIKO EAT + DRINK!

Yes it seems like this December most of my posts would be about food. So when I was invited to the PUBLIKO Degustation Event, I was kind of wondering what atmosphere that would greet me there. I was pleasantly surprised by the casual, comfy, and relaxing atmosphere there! And yes, it indeed does look like a Pub. In fact it is the first and only Gastropub in Eastwood City. The Publiko Restaurant is actually the old "Manor" club in Eastwood. Just in case you were looking for it. Its a 2 story resto with super high ceilings. I think its quite roomy!

PUBLIKO Eat + Drink is the first and only gastropub in Eastwood City in Quezon City from the creators of Draft Gastropub, Opus Restaurant and Lounge, Beso Cucina Vinoteka and Epic Boracay which caters to those who live to drink, dine and have a good time.

At the first floor there are several booths that you can sit with your family and have some wonderful food to eat. But you can also go to the bar and eat and drink just like in any good pub!

When you go up the stairs, you'll see this beautiful chandelier that gives the place a different vibe to it. You'll definitely feel that this place ain't just like any pub.

Set in a warm, laid back environment, PUBLIKO Eat + Drink is that familiar slice of the metro
where you just want to have a meal and share a toast with friends or family.

For this event, we were invited to eat there for lunch. I took the photos around late afternoon after most of the people weren't eating anymore. The 2nd floor has a lot of space, tables, and booths that would be great for you and your barkada to hang out with. What I love about the place is the super high ceiling and the awesome music! They have a great up-to-date playlist perfect for chilling, eating, and drinking.

Now this is where the magic happens! Yes, you can see Publiko's staff cook your meals for you. Awesome noh? Sometimes you can even catch Celebrity Chef Carlo Miguel cooking up the meals for you.

PUBLIKO Eat + Drink offers a wide array of American style comfort food by Celebrity Chef,
Carlo Miguel that though may be western, is still familiar to Filipinos’ palate.

So during the event, several of us bloggers got a chance to choose what food to eat. It was sooo hard! Everything sounds delicious. It even smells delicious based on the food that the other bloggers have ordered already. Here's the menu:

So first off the drinks that I ordered was the non-alcoholic beverage - Lemon Crush. Sayang I forgot to take a photo but its really zesty and yummy! Here are the dishes that I ordered:

Since I'm all for healthy eating, I decided to start with some veggies. I ordered the CRISPY CHICKEN SALAD which was surprisingly a big serving! I'm pretty much sure its good enough for 2-3 people. Yeah I can also finish the whole plate by myself but then there won't be room for other food. :P I love this dish. I would definitely come back and order this salad again kahit yun lang ang kakainin ko. haha. I'm on a no rice diet so this is great and filling. Plus the chicken was indeed crispy! Loved the sauce.

This appetizer was one of the favorite things I tried at Publiko Eat + Drink. It's the Crispy Fried Mozarella which I loved sooooo much! Look at the yummy melted mozarella. I swear I can eat all that up and not share. That's how much I really really liked those munchers! But since that wasn't my order (hehe thanks for sharing Keigh!) I had to control myself. haha. What I did order is the one on the photo below which is the Bacon and Cheddar Croquettes. It tasted good as well but my vote goes to the Mozarella. :)

Another dish that I got to eat (thanks to Keigh!) was the Mac and Cheese! Oh wow I'm so glad that I tasted it! I'm not usually a huge fan of Mac and Cheese but this is different since most of the cheese is Mozarella and the bacon/ham bits was delicious. Normally the Mac and Cheese that I've tasted comes off strong because its slathered with what sometimes looks like cheez whiz but Publiko's Mac and Cheese is light and makes you want to eat more and more! I guess because they didn't use that kind of cheese made a lot of difference. If  you love pasta (like me!) this is a must try!

As for the main dish, fellow blogger Keigh Jalbuena of Life in Heels  suggested that I try the Mom's Meat Loaf which is a homemade dish taught to the Chef by his mom which should be wrapped in bacon, steamed veggies, and onion gravy with a choice of fries, creamy mashed potato, or steamed rice. I wanted to have a taste of the creamy mashed potato so I ended up ordering that. And wow now this is comfort food! I love the veggies - its tasty and not overcooked (like in some restos). The Meat Loaf itself was delicious with the yummy bacon and soft meat. And the mashed potatoes was a delight! Yum yum!

And despite feeling extremely full, I made sure to save some space for dessert! The bestseller of the house was the Publiko S'mores Cake. At the chalkboard menu it came with a warning that it is addicting. lol. That I had to taste and verify for myself! And oh mah gosh it definitely is! It wasn't that sweet coz it's a bit similar to an ice cream cake sandwich with those graham in between. Its a bit hard to spoon (because of the ice cream sandwich effect.. its packed together quite hard) so expect resistance or it moving around like a block of ice on a plate. And yes believe it or not, its also good for sharing. :)

Another Publiko dessert that I got to taste was this scrumptious Bread and Butter Pudding. Oh man if its comfort food we are talking about this dessert is IT! I super duper love the combination of the warm buttery bread and the coolness of the vanilla ice cream. Plus there's this extra crunch from the caramelized sugar and the sweetness of the syrup.. its settles warmly on your tummy. Sabi ko nga.. if you are with your barkada and down in the blues, this dessert is just perfect. Haha. Di naman ako depressed during this time but I just felt the dessert expressed just the right amount of love and comfort. haha. May ganun! This was the perfect ending to my Publiko Eat + Drink meal. :) <3

I'm going back to Publiko for desserts! Super affordable pa!

Anyway, one of the special features of PUBLIKO Eat + Drink is the Imported Draft Beers. Sorry I don't have any photos coz I didn't order any. Anyway, so yeah Publiko is indeed a great place to hang out with your barkada this Christmas break as you have your reunions etc. Just like the event, I was glad to have met up again with my blogger friends. Ang sarap tumambay! Some of us ended up staying there until 4 pm. haha.

So Coffeeholics, if you are looking for a new tambay place for your barkadad in Eastwood? Try PUBLIKO EAT + DRINK - the place to go for comfort food, great eats, and awesome drinks. :) Merry Christmas!
